if y’all think touya is to blame, go reread

you mean to tell me, especially after reading this chapter that the blame also falls on dabi? bc he did it to himself? well shit we might as well blame shigaraki for following afo, he took his hand willingly. let’s also say it’s was hawks fault for becoming a slave to the commission bc he made that choice, right? and these would be right... if they weren’t all kids. that’s the difference. when they’re kids, it’s so easy to place the blame on them bc yes, touya was burning himself. but you have to look at factors aside from him to understand his intentions. why was he pushing himself? kids don’t do things without a reason. he raised touya with a goal, to surpass all might. he wanted a kid with a perfect quirk to defeat all might. already that’s smth he shouldn’t have done. raising a kid with a goal is bad because the child will grow up, believing that achieving this goal with make the person he looks up to (his father) proud and not achieving it will bring disappointment. when he saw more and more siblings being born, rei herself said that touya figured out what was going on. obviously, he would feel hurt and betrayed bc them having more kids means HE wasn’t enough, which already places a seed of hatred for all his siblings since they’re the product of his failure. and who likes to have a reminder of them not being enough staring up at them? endeavor, rei, and touya don’t share the blame in the creation of dabi, it’s just the parents. touya was just a tool endeavor wanted to use to surpass all might. and guess fucking what? endeavor isn’t better for stopping him early on. he had already fucked up when he gave him a goal. maybe changing the goal and being genuine about the change could’ve helped. idk but he could’ve fixed it. and him saying “no, stop hurting yourself. play with your siblings” wasn’t enough. yes, parents fuck up and that’s totally fine and normal, but endeavor’s fuck ups are to big for them to be normal (i mean his kid turned into a villain with the desire to kill him). and rei just didn’t do anything, so i’m not defending her either. in the end, touya isn’t to blame for becoming dabi. that’s just endeavor and rei’s fault.

and no i’m not using his backstory as a way to “justify” what he’s done. if anything, i’m just explaining that it wasn’t his fault for having such horrible perspectives on his family, especially his siblings. he is a villian and should be punished for his crimes.

and yes, i also thought endeavor pushed him to surpass all might. but this also makes more sense as to why he hates his siblings, having been “thrown away” early on in his life.

also holy fuck this is long but it’s for a character analysis so it’s ok

ahaha yeah, no problem. it’s completely fine not to know where to stand bc their family is just a mess. but i just think we shouldn’t blame touya for burning himself. just bc some of us speculated that endeavor was pushing him and later we figured out it was touya himself, doesn’t make endeavor better and touya worse. it’s the same when kids purposefully get bad grades on tests just so their parents could notice them. all he wanted to do was make his dad see his efforts and burning himself was just a side effect
