She doesn't even know she had powers and how special she is. She grew up in a messed up household in her past life. She was reincarnated as a child. She terrified of that man! What else do you expect her to do? ┑(￣Д ￣)┍

She's a child, she got traumatized. Do you think she can learn magic and swordsmanship while being lock up? She grew up while that damn bastard is torturing her and she died in a very not acceptable way. Put your shoes in her shoes and understand the situation ╮(￣▽￣)╭

I’m just saying she was in that cabin while they where in the manner there in different places she can learn something at least she has no special role to play which make her boring it’s just my opinion she has nothing interesting about her except that she’s maybe the dukes Daughter I just don’t find her intreating.

I think this is the big argument that is splitting people here. We understand she is traumatized but "trauma" is not a personality. What she does with that trauma is what makes her interesting and as it is she is just kind of a cute character. She's not angry, shes not determined shes not bitter or hopeful shes just kind of cute and floating through the story. She isn't plotting a long term revenge or dreaming of what her life will be like or trying to get new skills to protect herself or desperately latching onto the first thing that will get her to safety. I get she was locked up but it was 10 years she had to have been doing something with her time. was she cleaning? daydreaming? Reading a story? Doing embroidery? doing pushups? Did she just stare at a wall all day for those ten years? why dosnt she have a single skill or trait to show for all those years other then trauma? you can't give a character all those years to age and develop and not demonstrate how this person has developed in that time. She just comes off as bland because she was given so few characteristics. She could be an awful writer with terrible grammer or maybe she likes art but is overwhelmed by the options available now that she has more than just charcoal. I don't expect her to be op and super skilled just that she has some definable characteristics and dreams.

She has mostly lucked into finding help and being cute and pitiable has garnered her the affection of all the other characters It hasn't been through any kind of great plan or skill so it comes off as a shallow win. piling trauma onto a character and having other characters who inexplicably love her fix and said trauma just isn't a good writing strategy to make a dynamic and engaging character. It makes a fluffy shallow story that is fun to read occasionally but inevitably irritates some of the audience because we want more out of the character we have invested so much time into reading about.

I think I just read a whole essay but mad respect. Although your points make sense in this manhwa she is still a child. The count is soneone she is so deeply afraid of that she never wants to go back. I doubt she even had anything to do for ten years. And... she has only met her family once, we haven't gotten to the point where she realises she has powers. What made me post this comment was the fact that the original poster for this thread expected her to somehow learn swordsmanship and magic when I doubt she can even read. Never the less your points do make sense. I don't mean to offend the original poster because they were just voicing their opinions. But ye I get your point. (´∀｀)

Yes your right she doesn’t have to be the strongest smartest or plan a revenge maybe she just wants a normal life as a commoner who knows I’m just saying she has no special skill that will make her shin more then the others like she said she was alone in a cabin of 10 years a decade but she doesn’t have any special skill you can’t just say she traumatized that’s why she doesn't know anything it makes the lead boring.Maybe she studied medicine that will make her save the prince so she can have the the spotlight for a little just give her hobbies something she dose to pass time she was alone in a cabin...

Honestly its kind of crazy how divisive her character is in this comment section when you consider she has done literally 0 harm to anyone ever. Shes basically just an adorable sponge for abuse. And it has got me thinking why are characters like this so hated? In general I think people don't tend to like weak characters. Lots of series have these abused and sad protagonists and they get labeled boring, weak and useless and those series get dropped in droves. I think because from a narrative standpoint you are just stuck as an outsider watching this cute kid be traumatized and bullied over and over again and you just have to wait for someone to come save her. "Narratively" she is a bad heroine because she is a passive participant in her own story. She does not drive the narrative or make decisions or is capable of any heroic or interesting plans. So as the audience we are stuck next to her waiting for plot to happen off screen to move her to a new location or meet a new character. Along the way we don't really see any new facets of her personality or growth that could make up for the lack significance she has on the plot. All we see is that shes a cute abuse sponge and she has been one from chapter one and has not made much progress in over 30 chapters. When bullied at the table she said she'd be more upset but she has been treated well now so isnt as sad but again this is very passive behavior. She says nothing while still looking like a kicked puppy so the viewer is left frustrated for her and her lack of action.

As a function of what her character is we are only left satisfied when a different character helps her. It means that the only affection we have for her is from pity and not any achievement or trait of her own. It is the same empty feeling we have for OP characters who we are supposed to like because they get some great cheat and breeze through the story with inflated stats. Their personality is never developed because they have a crutch that carries them through the story. without an interesting character quirk or unique skill or development they are left as very boring trope characters.

The massive amounts of constant and repetitive abuse is being used to cover her lack of development. the more you feel bad for her the more you are supposed to like her. not because you learn more about her unique thoughts and dreams but because she is pitiable. The people who don't like the story see this as being a boring character because they are right. She is boring. I am not saying the story is terrible. I don't even think she is necessarily a bad character but as a "Lead" She is boring because of her inability to display a strong sense of character or action.

I don't hate the story I like all the mysteries that have been dropped about whose kid is she really? Does she really have holy powers? Why does the count abuse her so much what is their connection? But as a vehicle for the story to be delivered it feels like you are in a ditch with spinning wheels going nowhere while you wait for help to run down the road and push you out of the ditch. This is at least my hypothesis as to why she is so disliked by a lot of long time readers and comes off as bland. idk I find discussing her character and its flaws a lot more fun to read then the character itself but if people like her then all the power to you. Why did I write an essay for a manga character instead of my actual writing assignment who knows but if anyone reads this-thankyou and im sorry this is such a waste of time
