Well, Shiki was the one who caved in to that guy's words and ignored Sensei. Ultimately, Shiki was the one who ended the relationship because of his own insecurities.

Shiki went back to his daily job (Aka Prostitution) the other dude ended up in a mental hospital because he never recovered from his ordeal (His lover trying to cut his own armi am sure that would make anyone normal crazy if they see the person they loved the most trying to cut off their arm.

can u blame him. Shiki was obviously suicidal and imagine ur about to elope with someone of high class(Shiki views himself very low almost as garbage) and a betrothed man any normal person would have their doubts plus everything he hears at his job about love. then Sensei's "friend" coming in calling him a whore and pointing out all the flaws hes trying to hide in front of his love not only was he probably be humiliated but also highlighting all the horrible things he thinks of himself and ruining his lovers life it would make anyone unstable

Noooo, I get why everyone thinks this but honestly, in my opinion it was far more beautifully tragic! Way more than insecurities or any of that, Shiki couldn't bear to abandon his guardian. That's why he was having flashbacks of walking with Totetsu as a child, while the final conversation with the arsehole friend was happening. He would have been leaving Totetsu in the increasingly unstable red light district -- after he'd come to find Shiki after the war and tried his best to look after him and help him survive, even though life was so hard with his disability. That's why Shiki shouldn't be blamed for his decision, in my opinion, and it's just horribly tragic that Sensei had a breakdown. But I do hope his interfering, judgemental friend feels very guilty.
What the hell is with the sensei's friend in the first story, its his fucking life he can do whatever he wants urgh and that friend doesnt even look that sorry when the sensei become crazy (╬ ̄皿 ̄)凸
