I’m pretty sure the duke wasn’t behind the fire? Or something but he was doing it with a good reason and he purposely let the marquis escape or something its been a while since I read this

Yeah, I think he already know because the father already explain that the woman wanted her house to be set on fire, but I guess he is surprised how she know about that
He still doesn't know who's behind the fire but he told her that he doesn't care anymore since he has her and loves her. But now if he find out it's her father that's gonna be damn hard for him and quite the shock
