There's a difference between abuse when it comes from male to female and male to male. Especially in this case, when seme said 'I thought that if you got violent then all I had to do was push you away' because in reality he'd be able to protect himself in case uke did do anything. The same goes for yumi, but most people don't understand that yumi decided to stay and receive the abuse (this is common in male to female abuse relationships as well, however most females are incapable of protecting themselves against a male) due to his love for kan.
Now this is in no way trying to justify or excuse ukes violence. However, yumi had the responsibility to leave because when it comes to ourselves we are the only ones who can protect us from others. I know yumi loved him and wanted to make things easier for kan but he really went about it in a wrong way. Staying and willingly receiving abuse was the worst thing he could've decided to do. Apart from destroying himself he also destroys the abuser who is unable to control himself at this point. He could've made it easier by leaving in the beginning when he realized kan became violent because that would've stopped the damage from escalating to a point that neither can escape from.
Might I remind you that in the end it was kan who had to forcefully make yumi leave. Yumi getting abused was because he couldn't leave and hoped that the person he knew would come back. Many abuse victims do this which is so incredibly WRONG. Wishing to help them and be there for them is understandable but staying should never be the choice. Again violence is not justified no matter what and the fault lies with the abuser. Yumi is not at fault for anything other than the fact that he could've protect himself better than what he did.
I think my frustration really comes from the fact that kan was put into a place with so much shit happening and was incapable of leaving due to having no diploma. Getting help at that point was not an option for him and it's impossible to blame him for not caring about his mental health or leaving the company. When pushed to a corner a lot of people snap and the only solution would be to get help. And thats why I just really wished that yumi who was capable of leaving his situation but decided (unlike kan) to stay had actually left. I just hate that by staying yumi did more damage because i love him and I wish he could've spared himself the hurt.
In the end the best choice that had been made between them was when kan made yumi leave and yumi FINALLY did. Deciding to stay away and not have any contact with him was probably the best thing kam could do for yumi. The fact that the mangaka recognizes all these things and openly expresses to us that yumi 'couldn't be the one to make him smile' just makes this story 10/10
Unpopular opinion but needs to be said:
