i'm not really a fan of bad translations but to be fair most of them have a hard time translating and are expected to have a chapter ready by a certain time which is why most of them are low quality so i personally don't blame them
As the person who started this whole rant, I agree with this. A lot of people have a harder time learning a second or third language, especially when they're older, so I get that they have a hard time translating, and those aren't the people I've directed this rant at. It's those that don't put in the effort at all. If the translator doesn't have good control over English or don't want to (I totally get that feeling), they need to look for a proofreader, and from years of experience in scanlating, there are plenty of proofreaders out there. The scanlation community is rife with proofreaders. If they don't know much about Photoshop, that's fine. As mentioned in the rant, they can look up tons of tutorials online.
From what I've seen, there are so many translators out there that just wanna scanlate to promote their BL instagram. And the thing that really rubs me the wrong way is the entitlement. I just saw the chapters posted on Batoto of this webtoon, and the person literally put the screenshots through Papago, and posted them AS THEY WERE. No editing, proofreading, checking translation, or any sort. Very, very low effort. And to add to that, they said that readers should be thankful they can read it. Yes, they can read it fine, it's in English, but the phrases and words together don't make no sense at all. And putting stuff like that through Papago is something we don't have to be thankful of for this person, because as long as people have links to the illegal raws floating around in these comments, they can take screenshots of that and put it through Papago, doing the same thing as the person on Batoto. They literally said that they don't have the time to edit or anything. Why are we settling for that kind of low effort scanlation, even being expected to be thankful it's in English, albeit nonsensical English? That's the kind of people I was talking to in the rant. If other translators took it personally, I do apologize, I ran out of space and didn't wanna make it super long. But the truth of the matter is, there are people like that out there, and they don't contribute anything to this community in my opinion.

Oh no, well, I mean, I'm sorry for sounding mean as well, but it's just that, some readers can be mean as well, and that's what I was referring to. I don't want people to be mean to these translators because we don't really know if they're putting in the effort or not (unless they're super obvious about it). And I always believe in fighting evil with good. There's no point to being mean when we can just go on our merry way, aka just staying away from that group/person and minding our own business.

Bruh personally i wouldnt mind waitinv for months to get a good translation rather than those fast update with thousands inaccuracies and then aSkInG fOr fOlLoW IG its like they really just do it to gain fame yucks.
