Wait what backstory? There wasn't anything explicitly said about hyunwoo planning the whole kidnapping thing, nor any character development for him to do such a thing. Uke's hatred for Hyunwoo just came out of nowhere without any explanation.

I don’t remember the exact details of this anymore but i do remember one of the guys who was there saying “tell him it was his friends fault” or it was his friend to blame- something along those lines. dude had a savior complex. wanted the feeling of saving someone before he died so he set them up to bully and almost rape him so he could rely on him. reread it and it will be more clear.
re-read it and found it. Chapter 37. The guy that was leading the failed raped said it himself “Go and tel Jisoo... tell him... it was all Lee Hyunwoo’s idea!”. He even goes further and says that Hyunwoo was messed up for doing that to him and he doesn’t understand how Jisoo can still sleep with men after that. Even without this scene where they literally say he set it up, it’s pretty clear he did. Why would he randomly show up to that one spot when he already quit school?
