Makoto desperately doesn't want to lose Reita, if things don't work out between them. That's why she doesn't want to admit to liking him. Reita is somewhat of an idiot, so he doesn't understand the consequences that could arise from dating his childhood friend.
Not to mention that Makoto has trauma with her parents divorcing. She's afraid to like/love people in case they abandon her, much like her father did... in a similar circumstance.
