
I think there's a *big* difference between a real person and a fictional character.
What I mean is, personally, I'd never feel glad about someone's death (unless maybe if it was some special case where that person would have otherwise hurt many innocents or done some really terrible harm) in real life - in fact, I always feel sad even if I just read any mention about some person I didn't even know having passed away.
Conversely, in fiction, I'm often like "good riddance!" when an annoying virtual character dies. To me, there's just a very clear distinction between fiction and reality in this regard, you know? And I reckon many other people who comment like you mentioned may perceive this in a similar way.
