If a simple " i like you more then painting " could work for their relationship , a whole chapter would be very pointless for me . I mean the thing is not " i like you " nor " i love you " . Tooru still resisting acceptence . Hes not giving that boy all his heart .Maybe hes not ready , maybe he will never be . But years are passing and .... It hurts.
He has been showing him love since forever. And "I like you more than painting," coming from someone who adores painting, is the same as "I love you." Sleeping with him is the same as, "I love you." Choosing his happiness over his own --letting be and do what he wants--is love. He's been SHOWING love, even if saying the precise words he has not permitted himself. A lot of people say "I love you," but it's meaningless without action, sacrifice, unselfishness, devotion. Tooru every single day shows his love in every possible way.

Maybe in a future extra he will say it in words. In this last extra, they were showing how he said it in actions (the extra meal sides, the picture hung up, the cake, etc.)
Yeah. I don't understand what significance words have when actions say it all. You wouldn't take the words without the actions. That's how important actionsare. They should suffice.
