I don't know if it's consolation but in the novel, when the 1st timeline Ruve died, he was in great despair. His throne was snatched away from him, no one was on his side, he was constantly on alert because he was going to get assassinated and he could not protect anything. Just because of the poison they made him drink which slowly eroded his mind. On his last moments before he died, he only thought of Tia and was just looking at the moon (the symbol of the empress)
