I'm not justifying Luke' s father cheating on his wife who is disabled, but , she had been cruel to him, and he just tolerated her, but , at the end of the day, he had met a beautiful, gentle lady ( Luke's mother ) and since ( I'm not justifying this ) he was still young and had sexual urges, and most probably fallen in love as well, it was inevitable. But Luke's father was inherently a good man, and when his wife wanted to change and start over with him, he came back to her. And we have to admire him for that. He was a man but suppressed his manly urges until his wife died.
