I really hate it when they give villains a "so sad backstory" like what do you want us to do? Should we feel empathy?

    i like it. it gives them motivation and shows that they're not "evil" just for the sake of being evil you know?

    I think it’s more realistic. It’s not to feel sympathy but to show why did they become that way

    But only if u like have serious mental problems. Usually (not always) your past defines what kind of person u will be, like what kind of environment you grew up with, how u were raised etc. So it’s way more common for psychopaths to have some kind of dark background that led them to become what they are now. It’s like that irl as well, trauma and scars from the past created a messed up mindset. It’s way more logical for someone to become a villain with dark past then with happy/normal one. If she didn’t have any trauma I would’ve found it weird. No one is born bad.
