its said that if you give your lover shoes they'll use them to walk away
actually it has different meanings in the Chinese culture it is used as a gift for the bride on the weeding day that the groom gives as a representation of dont go anywhere without me but in the korean culture it is a token of bad luck cause with those same shoes you gave to them they will walk out on you
