I don't think his past justifies his actions. He is an asshole because he chose to be that way. Everyone lives some traumatic shit but everyones reaction to it different. He can be miserable its normal but he wants to ruin other people for his own misery.

Rather than saying it was his traumatic past. It's just he was raised that way. His mindset already been set up that way since his early age. Ofc it did not justified his actions which went too far.
