Update: In the seaon 2 Prologue Liam has a baby in the future. It seems he is a single working dad. I can't tell what happened to the mother of this child. But it looks like Kevin is cohabiting with him so he can help him raise the baby.
I guess he is divorced or conceived a child out of wedlock and he & Kevin never talked about their real feelings for each other... In season 2 they are either in their late 20s or early 30s.
