Both fl and ml have exaggerated characters, author shows fl as a perfection, ml is hella obsessive
Yeah, the story makes it look like he's changed a bit and is so good to her now after some realization, but my logic is if he's failed at holding onto her for so many lives with different situation in each one then maybe the fl just doesn't like his twisted core personality. After so many tries, you can't dismiss it as just a lack of experience or mistakes.
