Maybe they have a subconscious realization that they’re such total jerks that no woman could ever actually love them for themselves. It would be a rare moment of honesty for the majority of Harlequin male leads.
fr, like they're like those women too in the sense that they only want women for their beauty and they think it's the only thing they can offer but when women only want them for their money bc that's the only thing they can offer, all of a sudden it's wrong and they're gold diggers that'll ruin his life. like tf?
