I feel like the talk about inside and outside is the hint from the author. He may have known he cannot hide his past or intention, so he pretent to be honest (without telling all his plan) to gain points from her.

honestly i dont mind frau so far, i like his honesty. He might do something in the future to make me hate him but hes so fucking honest about his terrible intentions its hard to hate him plus he wants to open up a shop for the commoners so like......I get him wanting to marry pauliana for her money to do that and at least hes up front with that. Ofc he might do something later to make me hate him but i dont hate him now.
