Yvona is amazing! However, this is because she's confident that she can do it and she knows her abilities. It's unfair to call those people cowards simply because they wish to live. Walking to your own death and knowing that you're going to do that is an incredibly brave thing to do but you can't expect that of everyone. Yvona is going because she knows she won't die. So while she is still brave and amazing for taking such a dangerous mission, she is different.
