I think Mai gave her life so that maki could acquire cursed energy so she might be able to use her techniques or cursed energy in general

no, maki has a heavenly restriction so she cant get mais cursed technique

maki had cursed energy but it was at civilian level and she couldnt use it. mai took makis cursed energy so maki has literally 0 cursed energy now, shes like toji.

its bc she has 0 cursed energy now. remember toji? he was able to kill cursed spirits bc his body had superhuman senses to make up for his lack of cursed energy. when maki lost her cursed energy, she gained the same abilites as toji - her five senses sharpened to make up for the lack of cursed energy which is why she can see them now.
