He wasnt trying not to hurt her, he was trying to dismiss her feelings. Being like "oh but ur like a little girl to me! Remember when u were such a cry baby" and stuff. So he wasnt facing her or respecting the way she felt. Thats why she got mad at him. Not because he rejected her, but because he wouldnt do or say anything to aknowledge her statement.

This! Finally someone said it. It's not that she wants him to accept her, she just doesn't want him to belittle her feelings. No matter how childish she might seem, he has no right to dismiss it because it's important to her.
