no but is it really necessary to bring out the red book? and tamper the empress' personal belongings? isn't that should be considered invasion of privacy esp if the main source of poison has been found? if that general took the empress' book containing the confidential info, it just does not sit right with me ://

Maybe it was. Porn books might have been considered a taboo in those days and anyone in possession of one could end up in jail or beheaded. Sort of ike a forbidden item.

I mean there's really no concept of privacy back then if something looks suspicious they will check it so there's no surprise there

Back then the empress's job was to look after the affairs of the harem and stand next to the emperor as the mother of the nation while the emperor took the role to look after political affairs, warfare, the nation's needs, etc., so she was still ranked lower than the emperor that's why such thing as privacy for the empress didn't matter to the emperor. If he gave the order to look after the empress's chambers to find out about the poison his subjects hadded to follow his orders which meant searching their majesty's chambers under the orders of the emperor and that's why I am not surprised about the whole 'privacy' thing. I just do hope (if it was the book where she wrote the names of the suspicious people she needs to look after) that this will finally open that stupid jerk's eyes about that concubine he likes too much.
