I believe the first time the sword spirit met Ed, in a vivid dream, it called him a little chick who didn’t know how to use his power so it was not sure he could win
The dragon since then taught him his ability could to blow up the perfect cristal that make up the « body » of the sword, but also that because he didn’t know what he was doing, he pushed himself near to self destruction

Now, we also know, The devil king and the sword are two side of a coin : they exist together, but to activate the sword, it needs a human to wield it - that human needs a special constitution (cliff and Ed), and lastly, one he’s bound to the sword he will not be much of a human anymore - his consciousness is sacrificed, his perception and feelings will be damaged, and he’s expected to be sacrificed, to reset the sword /devil king story

Because Cliff grew some ties and refused to suicide at the end of the mission, the sword scabbard still exist and Ed who should become it’s next victim, is not bound to it
Because the sword has not brain washed him, they are opponents wanting the same guy for themselves


Pastor James and his disciple (Ed bro) researched the relationships between the hero and the sword, and probably uncovered that the hero is in fact no more than a sheath or a scabbard - the latest being Cliff , a young nobody that no one should have cared about - until he met a dragon …
Thanks to this fateful encounter, he did not fulfill the last part of the heroic tragedy - the sword Spirit is still not dormant, not ready for a new hero to chew
So far, i want to believe the big bro is in the good team, he most definitely doesn’t want to hurt his little brother, he is also someone who seems to value lifes, so probably, the scheme of the good vs evil war profit the church, but it is certainly not to his taste
(It’s that or he is the biggest villain ever, but his big dog body guard and the kids refugees who work for him push on the side of good)

I think the big brother knows that Ed is supposed to be sacrificed to the sword : once bound to it, he too will loose his memory, becomes a sacrificial too, for the next hero vs demon king play
With Cliff occupying the sword, he probably has a plan to overturn the corrupted authorities, and destroy everything for good, to save his brother

I’m not sure saving Cliff is part of the agenda (but he’s cute, so maybe)
But it doesn’t really matter : the MC is still Ed
I guess we can count on the help of dragon, and half elf fellows to help Ed reapzir himself , learn his power, and be safe when he blow the sword to save Cliff
That should be a big thing

So in the end, both of Ed and Cliff are needed to save each other - their connection is also definitely a key to defeat that mean spirit
Probably these hardships bring dragon and elf boy together

Maybe the author would add some twist about the gorgeous sword spirit that behave so evily, so that it can live up to it’s name (a flower that carry wishes for love) and we cleanse it too to make a perfect happy end for our beloved characters
