Iirc, ML doesn’t kill husband’s brother?? Instead he just tries to have a rebellion which goes poorly but it’s ok cause he ends up with his wife in the end in a different country

Can someone please tell me the context behind the husband killing the FL's brother? Cause everyone is mad about this but I'm sure the killing wouldn't have gone down for no reason or a petty reason at that. (also this is a genuine question, not me taking sides.)
