Iclis joined forces with layla( layla used a mind controll or whatever it was to control the duke and derick and iclis) It was all for her sake because he became obsessed with her. Too bad his no longer considering Penelope's decisions which is a no no. But for me it was Penelope's a little fault too, she raised his favorability like that only to be abandoned when not needed but I can't blame penelope either because she just wanted to survive?!?!
