He thought that his 'pranks' went too far. Nope sir, that's abuse. You're abusing her and masking it as a prank. She suffers mentally, emotionally, and physically because of your actions. It is apparent that he didn't think what would Adele feel about his 'pranks' and even asked why she did not confide with him. He actually thought that aside from the pranks that sometimes went too far, he did no such thing as making mistakes/sins. He didn't even notice that his father is treating adele horribly.
