Maetel never really puts two and two together and works out that he's the father—not without some clues from the Duke. Maetel thinks that Louis sleeps around; the Duke knows that Louis doesn't. So Maetel thinks it could be someone else's baby. But the Duke tells Maetel that whoever slept with Louis that one night about 4-5 months ago is the father. When Louis hears that, he knows that it was him.
