It stops mattering what other people think of your love interests later in life.. Best to just jump the gun and stop caring right away.
If he's a good guy and you dig him who cares about the rest.
But somehow its kinda hard to ignore those people. Since they always pester me to like another guy.. But yeah. He's a good guy I assure you :)
