The one thing that doesn’t make much sense to me is that in the original novel the MC was married but it’s clear that she was unmarried when she witnessed the murder. But it doesn’t make much sense that her, a witness would be left alone long enough for her to get married to someone and then later be deemed a threat and taken out.

Good question. It's weird 1st she's a married woman when she got killed to who is the question. Also it's said she got killed cause she was a witness to a murder. Plus she used blackmail. Then later it's stated she was killed on the orders of the emperor So now I'm confused.
