Eckles' affection isn't normal love. When his affection bar reaches a certain point the MC won't be able to see the numbers anymore but instead she will see colors. And instead of the red color of love, Eckles' color will be pitch black signifying obsession.
In the original timeline, vinter verdandi, the wizard, was the one who found the "real" daughter of Eckart, Yvonne, and brought her back, which caused Penelope many hardships.
In this lifetime, Vinter actually likes Penelope and therefore, he doesn't bring Yvonne back because he doesn't want Penelope to be hurt. Instead it's actually Ecles who brings the girl back specifically because he wants Penelope to be isolated and thrown out of the family so that "she won't have anyone but him".

If the endgame is the prince, what about Kallisto? I drop the novel because i'm annoyed about the FL and how she treated Kallisto like a doll, she bring him gifts which he didn't ask for and neglect him when he ask to see her. I get that he sometimes act like a baby, but she made him that way so she should take responsibility on how things played out. ヽ(`Д´)ﾉ
