does a villain NEED a tragic backstory to be an antagonist??? like not everyone is good especially in fantasy worlds liiikkkeeee…? cant we just have ONE villain who’s a villain— just because they want to. Just one. We didn’t need a tragic backstory for Cruella or Maleficent let them be the bad sexy ass bitches they are for no damn reason!! Why cant FICTIONAL villains purely be villainess like goddamn just cause somebody is gonna be the ML/FL and they got a love interest, do we really gotta justify their actions for this shit? It’s fiction and the title literally says “A Villain….” like bitch— he wouldn’t be a villain if he was a victim like

It's because these stories are more compelling I guess but I agree with you. The only villains that have no tragic backstories I can think of are ones from cartoons I watched as a child and they were made 2 dimensional to make the kids hate them and believe in the "good beats evil " and all of them are weird looking and freaky.

I think as I grew up I got to see more normal looking or attractive villains but it's like the authors want to tell readers "don't feel bad for liking these guys just because they are hot, here's a tragic back story so you can justify your obsession with them and convince yourself it's not just looks".
Dude what's wrong with just good looking people being villains just because they are bored or they think everyone is below them.
I would say Hannibal from the TV series fits this but then again, he also has a shitty background...( ̄∇ ̄")

i agree with you 100% that was basically me ranting so ty for reading that. The whole part about authors giving them all a tragic backstory to “allow” the reader to freely like them is so foreign to me idek why when it’s literally every story ever— but atp if a villain is hot, sexy, and totally bonkers, count me in. Like from Her Majesty’s Swarm GODDAMN IT ALL SHES FUCKING HOT IM NOT RLLY A LADIES GIRL BUT BY FUCKING GOD SHES SO AMAZUNG I LOVE HER SM anyways you should read that if ur into villainy stuff (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
