If it’s just about the princess, i would have to add, that she negotiated with the general, to work with him for the sake of her own ambitions (adverse her own brother )
So they have a quasi alliance on the surface (no trust whatsoever), but getting rid of a few common obstacles (both princes ?) before getting at each other’s throats
