I was SO looking forward to the ending ( so I took 3 days to read all of it to rush to the ending) to see if they actually explains that bit and now I feel like the manga is incomplete ┗( T﹏T )┛ I liked Sai and I wanted him to play more.
The ending gave a lot to be desired... Hikaru never explains Sai. You don't see how everyone grows up. Lots of things felt unresolved.
