I would be hurt too and feel pathetic that I can't afford my rich wife a single thing. I wouldn't able to face her too, if she hate him and this land. He never wanted this marriage coz he knows he can't afford her even if he love her but he can't go against the emporer. Poor guy
Its pretty sad that he interpreted her words like "I cant ask you anything cause you broke" that hurt
