Yes because personal emotions can affect the process of a surgery a lot, especially if it's a critical one. So it's better if your surgeon is someone completely unrelated to you.

One of my relative is surgeon and he does not go into the surgery of the people he knows -friends family etc- He said most of his surgeon friends like that too. When someone they are related needs a surgery they trust some other surgeon they know.
