Attention tourists!
There are a lot of places to go to in India which are a lot less crowded and are a lot more fun. It's a whole sub continent in itself with a rich history so choose wisely.
And if you really want to see the Ganges... Go upstream... You get to see the Himalayas too
Check what level of crowds you can handle before travelling. Varanasi and Agra are very picturesque but are some the of most populated tourist destinations in the country ╥﹏╥
