i think he has this inner turmoil going on with himself. at first he was like she's a "beautiful liar" or w/e it was that he called her. I think now he's more intrigued by her like he wants to know more about her. As much as i hate to word it this way...i can't think of anything else....he realizes that she isn't like the other noble ladies trying to court him. I don't mean that in the sense that "she's not like other girls" but if you look at her behavior, it seems like she doesn't really want him. When at a party she spent time with his little sister and didn't even make an effort to spend time with him. When he offered her help (in this chapter), she didn't accept it and left but for some reason she came despite being sick. From his eyes, her actions are contradictory. She acts like she wants to marry him but at the same time she keeps her distance from him. At the same time, she's supposedly close with his best friend, who is supposed to avoid women. This is all my speculation and analyzation so it's subject to be wrong but I think he wants to know what she really wants because of her actions up to this point have been contradictory. He knows what the other noble ladies want, which is to marry him and become empress, but he doesn't know what she wants.
