Not a novel reader but i read that the duke will realize hes in love but anastasia is choosing to live her own life not with him. They reborn and get tgt. But that’s still too far. We still have to read all this angst

No they don't get back together. The Duke realizes too late that he's in love with her, and by that time she also realizes this and decides her ultimate punishment to him would be to run away---and when she's unable to, to kill herself, which she does attempt but he tries to keep her alive at all cost. She loves him but also genuinely hates him too much for what he's done to her to ever forgive him.
When she's finally able to die, she says to him she hopes to never meet him even in their next life. It ends with him having a dream of going back to the past, and seeing a younger version of her. We as readers aren't really sure if he did go to the past or if it's just a dream.

I don't remember the plot 100% (SORRY...it's been too long) but the one thing I do remember very clearly is that he was an irredeemable asshole to her from start to end; and made her miserable her whole life. Like not just mildly horrible, he was truly the worst person any girl could've ever met in their life. I felt SO bad for her, but that was kind of the gimmick of the novel.
