I've noticed many comments from people who don't understand why Philomel behaves this way or why she doesn't believe in the emperor's words. If you examine it closely, he only liked her because of the mask she wore and grew fond of her due to her resemblance to the late empress through her facade. Additionally, it's not surprising that she would be afraid after enduring a brutal death in her previous life, where her father never loved her and she was surrounded by terrible individuals. Her paranoia about everything stems from her fear of death.
