I think fuan shian (new emperor) was a child of late emperor before the killed emperor, so he basically a brother of the killed emperor and that's the reason why he could freely talk back and make his way as a new emperor.
The manor could be counted as rewards and they still had a fortune from company fan ren/leyfa made. Remember they were branded as traitor and decreased so fuan shian only could do this much. Also the reason why Zan family was chosen as an "example" was likely to the fact that in therm of rank and power, they're a second-in-line with royal family and taking a count the death of late zan family head (shin father) due to offending the emperor so it was make sense to choose the Zan family to act as the one who do the rebellion (and for the sake of progress tho).

What....that's it??? Bruh noooooo there's no way that's all T-T everything got tied up way too fast it's a bit unsatisfying. What happens with the Empress and her kid? Who is the new emperor and why did he have so much sway over the old emperor, was he not the old emperor's son like I assumed? And they just....lose their whole fortune and get no reward from the new emperor other than they actually get to keep their life and a secret trip to Leyfa's hometown?
You'd think the Leyfa would at least get some monetary compensation from the business she helped start and still helps with, or at least the money from the beasts Shin Yu slays. Which speaking of, like are they just living like that now because they don't have the money to hire help or because they can't have people recognizing them as the zan family? Which brings me back to the why they had to fake the zan family executions, because I still don't get why they had to do it. They say they want to prove that the new emperor will not hesitate to destroy anyone who supported the old emperor but that doesn't make sense?? Maybe I misread or something but I'm still baffled by the sudden turn of events
