thankfully doesn't end up with her but he sympathizes with her and forgives her and she did some real crazy stuff by this point so i think him consoling her after all she did was a pussy move

I think it's really in character for him.
Abuse victim in real life often does the same. They self-blame a lot. Abusers often crushing their victim self worth to the dust. Even after get out of the abuse cycle, that mentality still there.
Honestly, it is quite realistic.
i hope the manga deviates from the novel bc he was a real sucker there especially at the end
