the story's premise was interesting, but the characterization of young pletta was so jarring from what I expected in a child abuse victim that I pretty much dropped the story there. i suppose her happy demeanor could be a defense mechanism, but it's hard for me to sympathize with her or feel the angst when she doesn't really exhibit the visceral signs of abuse that are typical of one (such as instinctual aversion to touch, guarded and timid behavior, etc.... like why is she jumping on the bed)

This is a possible reaction to a child that is curious and is abused/neglected. Like a child that knows they can’t have something but still try to obtain it. I agree tho they should have had her a little more dejected but I like that they still remind her of her abuse. It seems interesting but I need to understand how she ended up like that kinda like Arshete or however you spell it.

She was neglected in the empress’s palace over a misunderstanding but still wanted the attention of her father even tho he told her to her face he didn’t want anything to do with her… idk if it’s a stretch comparison but they remind me of each other.

no i agree, i hate stories that use abuse just a plot boost but can’t follow those with the depth and characterization. Obviously it’s true that being abused can affect people differently and not everyone turns out to be meek and frighted but honestly it’s like they just use it for show which is something that really bothers me
