He was an asshole in the main story too but in a like understandable/funny way between your best friend and quiet honest, too, like in this story.
I guess the difference is that he isn't in a toxic relationship or overall depressed but then again we don't see that much of his storyline in the main story, just some hints and stuff, like about his sister.
Basically, main story Yuri is more like the Yuri you know from the beginning of "Form of Sympathy" until it got batshit crazy. But that's just my opinion.
Honestly, I recommend reading the first story, simply for the first couple. I liked them.
