Waited to read this until the every end. . . And so i did. I binge-read it for a couple days.
I just wanna say that, it's very unique, the romance is really light that's almost transparent, it's consistent with the main subject of the story and it doesn't fall off in any any stage of the manwha. It is. . . a masterpiece. Everything is so persistent with the way it has to go.
What's truly beautiful are the characters psyche and their deep mind.
- Soohyun comes off as pathetic, in a literature way he'd be deemed as inept for not being able to leave the past behind him, because he's unable to, or simply put he doesn't want to. I noticed that not a single time he tried to get over the past, even at the final stage of the story he still won't see the new version of Eunsung. He can't fathom that "Eunsung wasn't like this before", he can't or don't wanna see that Eunsung is not the person he always thought he'd be, he still considers him as that one person who had everything and anything, the superior one, the one with many skills that had it easy his entire life. He also thought that he knew everything about Eunsung but at this point, he barely knew anything.
Soohyun is bound by his own anti-social past, by his inferiority complex and by his inhibitions. His addiction to dominate Eunsung falls off as petty and childish when i saw that Eunsung is already at his lowest point. How is he gonna bring him down more when Eunsung's weakness became Soohyun's safety? But Soohyun took that as if Eunsung was considering him as "weak" / "someone who's not competent enough" / "someone who has to be taken care of". Soohyun all this time, his inferiority complex won't let him see the fear in Eunsung's worried face. He wants to be the lead of it so bad, but he doesn't even realize that he pratically lost at the beginning. The way Eunsung wanted to end it all but Soohyun is unable to do anything that could make him stay. That's when i realized that Soohyun had lost to Eunsung, his only way of winning was staying by his side and that was it.
The main point of the story is not Soohyun overcoming his past and his complex, sadly. The character development was mild, but constant thru the story but it will change at the very, very end. Only at the end, he'll realize the missing point of his obsession. And that is, the feeling of being equal to Eunsung, he'll realize that it's not wanting to be at the top, but rather being by his side this whole time. In all honesty, the way he's written, Soohyun is very antagonistic.
- Eunsung, from his flashbacks and povs, i now realized that he's not at fault of anything really, prolly the only misjudgement was to let other people make use of him, I hate that they were tryna antagonize him in the early chapters, i hate that people would misjudge him as the culprit of everyone's fault. Eunsung has a cold demeanor, it's the result of not having his own way in life. Thinking abt it, yeah , he had evrything already, but doesn't mean he wanted it. It get's sadder and darker, and i kinda find it stupid that he found his only source of "alienation from reality" from Soohyun, even when they were in highschool and even in the present time. But it makes me soft smile, because he deserves more. His apathic behavior is produced non other by the society's influence, and honestly i can say the same thing for Soohyun. Society molded them to grow with indifference. Eventually, he managed to finally free himself, ofc thanks to Soohyun and everyone that testified, but i can't imagine how fulfilling it is to finally end this sad chapter and start a new one with Soohyun.
- all in all, even if they never came to properly declare their feelings. . . "Being the way they are now" is an understandable feeling. Even tho, we all know they both want more. Their repressed feeling obstacled by society's misjudgement will fade with time. And i know Eunsung will cherish Soohyun everyday. He's so in love.
Honestly i couldn't had the patience to wait everyweek for an update, i'm glad to my past self for waiting til the end.
Also i'm rooting for baby Shinhae, oh baby he deserves everything in this world. Make him and Eunsung's bestfriend be a couple like. . . They deserve some real love too.
