I am once again begging

People to not read something if they don't like it.

This is psychological thriller/horror so ofc it's not going to go the way you, the reader, thinks it should go. That's the whole point of writing dark fiction.

Was trying to thumbs down and reply, not follow. People are allowed to critique works. Don’t like don’t read is the dumbest childish thing you can say and shows no media literacy whatsoever. If you are a kid and think this is good for your underdeveloped brain it’s not and it’s damaging yiu. If you’re an adult, grow up. People can critique a work. At what point does yaoi go too far if this doesn’t end up being a real thriller and it just because another sadistic for no reason but to be different and quirky bl? Can we not acknowledge that if the story has NOTHING to say and is just torture porn that it is not a good work and the author should re-evaluate why they want to tell stories and what stories they want to tell? What the impact of their work is on the world? If the rape and murder, which so far has shown some explicit shots of, ends up being nothing more than a plot device to make a twisted sadistic male lead to torture the other male lead WHAT is the point? And if YOU get off to that, maybe take a moment to step back and have an inner monologue with yourself and who and what you want to be

I totally agree lostikins. More than half of these people aren't even critiquing but more so getting angry at the author for writing dark fiction as if it hasn't been around for centuries and people for enjoying fictional horror. If people can't differentiate fiction from reality then that's their problem. People here will read the genre and summary and still continue to make the choice of reading this dark twisted fictional story and then cry about it for being what it is. I accept real critiques but jabbing at authors for creating obvious twisted stories has been a thing for years sadly, even for stories such as beserk but it still overcame the holier than thou moral compass yellers

Lemme ask you this then; why do I see people slandering and bitching about this shit mostly for bl/yaoi??

It's hardly ever anything for het works, but for some reason most of the psychological horror het works I've read have been far more gruesome and gut wrenching than this.

Also, this manga has 2 volumes which means we still got a long way to go. If you're bitching this early when the first twist was just revealed to us then maybe I'm not the one that should be asking myself questions.

People will applaud Edgar Allen Poe or Shakespeare for their transformative works while failing to notice that writers like them have written some of the most fucked up shit in literature and helped to pioneer dark fiction.

On the topic of criticism; I don't believe in them. Maybe if it was someone trying to give genuine constructive criticism that'd be one thing-- but most people can't tell the difference between criticism and just being an ass 'cause you don't like the subject matter. It all comes down to "me, me, me" at the end of the day.

People are just fucking stupid. Should probably stick to their coffee shop au bs.

Stupid take. Idk and idc what the hets mangas are doing because that’s not what I’m talking about right now. I have seen a trend in bl like killing stalking and the sadistic beauty bl side story where the authors did get “lost in the sauce”. The sadist beauty author actually was very open about how she didn’t give a fuck and that her story was just torture porn with no narrative point but to fulfill her kink. I think that’s a problem. I’m talking about the line between stories, actually narratives, and torture porn. Bl especially blurs this line in that the genre contains a lot of smut. But if an author isn’t careful about that line and ends up just making torture porn that IS a problem. Especially if a bunch of kids are reading it on some illegal site. The content we make matters and art should not cause harm. We already know violent porn alters brain chemistry. If you want to look to Japan and it’s smut/porn UNCRITICALLY then know the manga industry is the last place in japan where child porn is STILL LEGAL and bl often crosses this line too. I’m saying to think critically moving forward, but rather than actually think about anything you want to reduce it to “bitching”. No artistic work exists within a vacuum.

Edgar Allen Poe and Shakespeare didn’t make explicit horror smut/porn lol you are not genuinely comparing the works of two literally masters to some persons dark gay smut. This isn’t some revolutionary story and it’s definitely not published in a magazine for all ages. This is smut, porn, not a novel or screen play. We should be critical of violent porn that is violent for the sake of fetish. If you really think that in Japan this isn’t being published as porn for 18+ audience you’re out of your mind. Japan is one of the only countries that legally produces child porn via manga so if you really think what they allow to be published should not be considered critically I mean….

There's incest, allusions to necropphilia and pedophilia in popular and well known literary media dating back to before, after and during these two artists' works.

There's cannibalism in Candid and Brave New World had a scene within the first couple of chapters that had people labeling a child as "defective" 'cause he didn't like another child tochung him sexually. I know this 'cause I had to read them for high school reports.

This manga isn't even painting what this man did in a positive light. There's 2 volumes and we've barely scratched the surface of the first plot reveal.

This isn't mindless smut, either. It's a psychological thriller that just so happens to have a sex scene tossed in here or there 'cause the younger priest is fucked in the head and has a sick obsession with the ex-priest.

And once again, how come bl gets criticized so badly when there are worse het psychological thrillers with sex in them that I've read lol at least in this one the ex-priest isn't sticking around 'cause he liked the sex. He hated it. It literally tore him apart both spiritually and physically.

    Come tf off it lol

"Can we not acknowledge that if the story has NOTHING to say and is just torture porn that it is not a good work and the author should re-evaluate why they want to tell stories and what stories they want to tell?" yeah, no lmao people can write whatever stories they want without morality police like you trying to insert themselves everywhere. BL is a niche market, in no way does this impact the world so hop off you puritan dick. People are allowed to create any content they want without reevaluating themselves so just the "pure and good stories with meaning" remain on the market lol op was right. I know it's a hard pill to swallow but If it's not ur cup of tea then move the fuck on instead of policing whether xyz work should exist.

I know you think what you’re saying is a good point but you’re comparing apples to oranges. Yes. Famous horror and thriller works contain taboo things like incest rape and murder. Those things aren’t porn or fetish content though. You are comparing dark topics in actual literary works or films (which have stricter laws about what can be shown in film or tv for ex) used as important parts of storytelling and the over all narrative to a gay japanese porn book made for straight Japanese women as fetish content. Apples and oranges. Maybe YOU are interpreting this work as something like Silence of the Lambs or The Tell Tale Heart but I have done enough deep dives and have studied Japanese and have friends that help me translate difficult bits and unfortunately, no, these authors do not separate the horror from the porn. I have read many artists describe the torture, rape, or child explicit content as made the way it is and featured as it is…to be “sexy” for the viewer. That’s the dark reality about how Japan views sexual content. Child porn of real kids wasn’t even illegal to own until like 2014 or 2017 and they didn’t have laws about rape against boys/men, their laws literally only considered women capable of being victims until like 2017. But regardless I said I’d WAIT to see how the author handles the topic and if there’s any delicacy or point to be made. You just need to accept that the Japanese people making this content are doing it for fetish. It’s to be titillating. That includes the snuff, gore, and rape. Just because YOU might not read it that way doesn’t mean that’s not how it is over there and why it’s being made and it’s helpful for us, as outsiders, to know that. I don’t care to discuss this further and have muted the thread.
