Plots and MC's like this get on my nerves because they have so many opportunities to get away from the person that is abusing and controlling them but they never take it
I know the whole point of the plot is to make it seem like they're trapped they have no choice
Are they really trapped?
You have a literal Duke
Somebody of higher power than the person that's controlling you
Who can fix your problem if you tell him what's going on

Unfortunately even in our world people do the same stuff and do anything to escape because as an outsider you see many doors open but as someone living it you see none. There vision is very narrow being manipulated and brainwashed to think they have none. You can say if you were her you would do something different but the human mind can only take so much before the spirit is broken and gives up on trying to run away. Your also an outsider looking in not the person actually in it (unless if you've gone through it and made it out. But alot of people would not be like you some can break really easily)

Exactly, people expects characters like Olive to suddenly grow a backbone when in reality, it's psychologically impossible. That sort of mental healing takes years, decades upon decades because relapses are a possibility.
It annoys me that human beings can't even be compassionate for these characters who goes through realistic situations of abuse and torment.
Sure, it's an overuse plot, but I see it as spreading awareness, whether intentional or not, that these situations do and will happen.
I have seen a small handful where it's completely unrealistic but this one is quite realistic, minus the cursed bloodline concept, but you get the gist of it.

The other thing is guy who took olive and her sister knew what he was doing he killed the family ones he considered usless qnd preyed on 2 vulnerable children then used both to get something out of each one. Plus children are much easier to manipulate then adults because they don't know how to escape a way of life that will become years of abuse but to them its normal way of life. I too see it as an educational of spreading awareness of what goes on in the mind of abused victims and how their mind sees such a narrow clouded way of no escaping. But for the original poster my question is this if you had a friend who was going through abuse get angry at them for not seeing a way out or would you be understanding and calm and try to .ake them realize there is more options laid out for them to leave. Would you give up if they refused to see they have more options then what they see. Cause if you get angry when they do things to what you think should be done and they don't do it all it shows is that their abusers are correct they are useless and nobody wants them but the abuser.
