Schizophrenia is incurable, but it can be kept stable with medication. I'm sure the dad is an asshole and his treatment of her is terrible, but at this point all we know is that the mom had schizophrenia but she refused to take the medication that would help her stay stable. we really have no idea what she was like before she married him. It's not easy live with someone with schizophrenia, you never know when the switch might be flipped. I have a friend whose brother has it and he has tried to hurt her before. And knowing that that person refuses to take medication makes it worse.

I'm just saying that living with someone with schizophrenia is not easy and at this point we haven't really heard the dad's side of the story. Not to mention that before she killed herself, the mother realized how she herself had physically and verbally abused her child. She herself acknowledged that was because of the schizophrenia and she was sad and scared she had passed it on to him. Like I said, we haven't even heard the dad's side of the story. Mental illness doesn't affect just the person, it affects everyone around them.

Or she could have ended hurting other people or homeless, like a lot of people here in the US. Specially the ones like her who refuse to take their medication. Watch a movie called Salt Lake City Punk. A girl in it has it and she stops taking her meds. The difference between before and after is telling. I get that the dad is a jerk, but people shouldn't make it out to sound like he did this to her, that it is all his fault. She was BORN with one of the more severe mental illnesses out there. And again, she REFUSED to take medication.

What are you talking about!? Are you implying that the father tricked the mother into thinking she was schizophrenic!? again, people are BORN with it! If she was normal whole life, there is no way someone could have convinced she had it later. She herself later acknowledged that she was a terrible mother because of it and she was afraid her son would have it too. Are we even reading the same story?! And just like WE don't know if she was stable before marriage, WE don't know that she wasn't because the author hasn't told us that part of the story. Also the money has nothing to with it. Did you miss that part or conveniently forget that she kept refusing to take her medication? Medication is the biggest factor in keeping schizophrenics stable. The minute she walked out of that house, she was going to be unstable and dangerous.

What I try to say is that you just take the word of the teacher, which she heard from the father or the secretary, as the truth. She might have that or not. How do you know her schizophrenia is real or just an excuse they told others. Maybe the drug is just mean to keep her quiet down and obedient.
Of course, I blame the father, when she had a fit, he even asked what does she want, another child. Being locked up in that house is making her sick evenmore.
The dad is 100% a jerk. But people with severe schizophrenia can be very dangerous. The fact that her own kid asked her if she was going to choke him that day proves the mother was dangerous. The sad part is that because they are capable of good days, it can give people false hope, specifically when they are young and don't understand that schizophrenia can't be cured, only managed through medication. As harsh as this sounds, at least in a moment of lucidity she chose to hurt herself and not her child. I think she killed herself because she was afraid that eventually she would hurt or kill Jihwan.
