Dude REREAD the chapter and realize that this is simply something that the father said in order to shut up people for keeping her isolated. She begged him to LET her go, she was very in touch with reality for a supposedly unmedicated schizophrenia patient, with VERY clear needs. They made a deal, a deal that he'd let her leave once they had a child. The deal was made because he paid her debts. She said that she was going crazy by being kept ISOLATED. For a person that is once again supposedly "schizophrenic" he was asking of her "not to make a scene" and threatened that he'd never let her go very clearly. What's crazy is how you ignore the cues and metaphors of the whole story and hang over the word schizophrenia that was mentioned once in a phone call for the sake of manipulation. Did the scene where he looked at her emotionlessly and told her that she'll never get a chance to escape skip over your head? This quite clearly didn't seem like something someone who's keeping a schizophrenia patient save from the world would say.
He's a man who quite clearly FORCED HER to bear his child, even the author commented that Jihwan is like his father in this part, obsessive.
It's funny how you call people ignorant, very hypocritic. Have a look at your own comment and your inability to pay attention to basic cues in the story and perhaps you'll find you're the one that mostly fits your judgmental description of the people that "dared" to say anything that doesn't fit your own view of the story.

From what i read it seemed like the mother was in that kind of state because the father was obssessive and imprisoned her. I bet she didn't even love him. She probably strangled her son because he was the spitting image of the man YOU'RE THE ONE ASSUMING HER MEDICAL ILLNESS.

I thought of that but i kinda doubt it. She wouldn't be so in touch with reality as an unmedicated patient. Then again, this could simply be an inaccurate representation by the author. Based on her behavior, to me this seems to be more likely major depression with emotional disregulation. Isolation affects both cognitive functions and mood and can lead to obsessive thinking patterns due to rumination.
I mean, people with schizophrenia cam still ne in touch with reality but I too doubt it. I just think it'd kind of ridiculous that people are genuinely fighting and bringing out pitchforks over someone's mental illness ngl
It's not about the topic(mental illness), it's about the aggressiveness and the personal attack. Saying someone is in denial or ignorant just because they don't agree with your point, is a personal attack and definitely not the will to have a healthy debate. Also, even though in my own comment i explained to them that i know what schizophrenia is and no, that I don't confuse it with depression but this is just my take on what she suffers from(instead of schizophrenia), they still chose to insist on that assumption about me in a different comment. So yup, let's say that it's the behavior that made want to fight with them. Still i do agree that there's no point fighting on the internet or in general.

What the fuck are you talking about? The mom and dad agreed to make a deal that after the kid was born she was free. The dad held her hostage and gaslighted her into thinking she was always sick and that she had to be held hostage. She clearly went insane because the father had her locked up in the house for over seven years, and was spewing bullshit lies about her being "sick". It's so obvious that the father was the perpetrator. And no I'm not saying she doesn't have schizophrenia or depression, because I don't know for sure. But I do know that the father is a manipulating fuck that drove her into madness.
Honestly, I am shocked at how some people either still don't realize, believe or understood that the mother had schizophrenia, literally THE WORST mental illness someone could have. Or maybe it's just plain ignorance. Some people are saying she suffered from depression. Schizophrenia is not depression, people, they are two very different things. People can be born with a chemical imbalance that causes depression or they can become depressed by an even or their environment and they can be cured. Whereas people are BORN with schizophrenia, it is not caused. And it can't be cured, just managed mainly with drugs. So saying that the father drove the mother to "madness" is not true. Other people are saying she didn't have schizophrenia at all, either the dad made it up or she had postpartum depression. But again, depression in any form is not the same as schizophrenia. Clearly the mother's mental disorder went beyond depression. Depressed people don't choke their own kid, much less every day. The author clearly gave the mom schizophrenia and made the dad a jerk so it would make sense why Jihwan is fucked up in the head. Wether people think that gives him a valid excuse or not, that is personal opinion and we are all entitled to that. But the fact remains that the mom was a schizophrenic and even though she had no control over her actions, those actions still had a huge effect on Jihwan. Also, the father absolutely did not cause her illness, she was BORN with it.
