Would just like to say, a better word would be character development. Saying a rapist is having a 'redemption arc' implies that rape is something that can be compensated for. I know you obviously know rape cant be redeemed but your wording sort of goes against your intentions. Also you're right, idk why this author even added the side couple the storh would be just as interesting without them.

No hate for this manhua, author or the readers, I really gotta say this,
The second couple seme is awful and actually it hurts me everytime I read these type of yaoi, where seme r*pes uke but the author does not even consider it r*pe and there are NEVER any redemption arcs. I'm 99 per cent sure that the second couple seme will NEVER have redemption arc.
Even jinx is better than this, yk why? Because at least there will be redemption arc (maybe it's nowhere to be seen rn but I'm 100 per cent sure it will soon happen AND I also know that just because there's redemption doesn't make the seme's r*pe nullified. Honestly I know the author is trying to sell s*x but really sometimes, it makes you question in what era they're living, in past yaoi had THESE exact tropes and it was normalised because people (especially women) didn't really had much idea about how two guys f*ck but really today seeing someone serialising something like this really makes me question if they know what r*pe is.
I know that majority of yaoi always have a r*pe troupe BUT most of them have a redemption arc too. I hope the author considers at least a redemption arc for the second couple or this manhua is really no different from stuff from mrm.
I'll probably not read this anymore and also not buy more chapters because I really don't think I can stomach stuff like this in a manhua.
